스위스 출신임에도 불구하고 정통 브리티시 하드락 만을 고집하는
Krokus 이후 스위스에서 가장 성공적인 밴드로서
스위스 유명한 산의 지명에서 그룹명을 'Gotthard'라고 지었다 한다.
1992년 셀프 타이틀 데뷔 음반 [Gotthard]를 시작으로 블루스에 기반을 둔
하드락을 선보인 그들은 스위스의 국민적 락 영웅으로 추앙을 받는 그룹이다.

 

특별히 Gotthard가 주목받는 이유는

90년대 초 유럽이나 미국등지에서 번지기 시작한
얼터너티브, 테크노,힙합 등이 세계 대중음악의 주류 장르로서 위력을 떨칠 즈음
정통 하드락의 본고장이 아닌 스위스에서 결성! 이방인으로서 그 전통을 고집하며
활약한 것은 높이 평가할 만 하다.
트랜드에 편승해 한때 반짝하는 것보다

오직 한 길만을 가는 것이 더욱 소중하다는 것을
