블라인드 페이스(Blind Faith)의 해체 후

델라니 앤 보니(Delaney And Bonnie)의 투어에 동참한 에릭 클랩튼(Eric Clapton)은

투어 멤버들이었던 베이시스트 칼 레이들(Carl Radle)과 키보디스트 바비 휘틀록(Bobby Whitlock),

그리고 드러머 짐 고든(Jim Gordon)과 함께 새로운 밴드

데릭 앤 더 도미노스(Derek and the Dominos)를 결성했다.

1970년 여름 마이애미의 스튜디오에서 앨범 작업을 시작한 밴드는

올맨 브라더스 밴드(Allman Brothers Band)의 기타리스트 듀언 올맨(Duane Allman)을 맞이했고,

같은 해 11월 이 역사적인 명반이 탄생되었다.
