40대에 접어들 때까지, 조지 해리슨은 자기가 2월 25일생인 줄 알고 있었다니,

외국에도 음력이? 여전히 여기저기 그가 2월 25일 생인 것으로 나와있다.

두말이 필요 없는 전설적 밴드 비틀즈의 리드 기타리스트로 활약.

영국 스키플 사운드의 대가인 로니 도니건(Lonnie Donegan)의

''Rock Island Line''에 영향을 받아 기타를 배우기 시작했고

그 후 칼 퍼킨스(Carl Perkins), 듀언 에디(Duane Eddy),

쳇 앳킨스(Chet Atkins), 버디 홀리(Buddy Holly) 등의 영향을 받았다.

그는 열 여섯 살 때 존 레논/폴 매카트니 콤비와 만났다.

초기 비틀즈 사운드는 존 레논의 리듬 기타가 더 두드러져

조지 해리슨의 기타 리프는 묻혀 있었고

작곡자로서도 존 레논과 폴 매카트니 콤비의 그늘에 가려있었다.

하지만 소녀들의 함성에서 벗어나 비틀즈가 진지한 뮤지션쉽을 찾으려 애쓰던

1963부터 1966년 사이

인도 전통 악기 시타의 연주와 더불어 그의 작곡력은 빛을 발하기 시작했다.

1966년 [Revolver]에 담긴 ''Taxman''과 ''Love You Too''에서는 그의 보컬을 선보이기도 했고,

''Something''이나 에릭 클랩튼을 초청한 ''While My Guitar Gently Weeps'' 같은 출중한 곡을 쓴 것도 그였다.

1970년 그룹의 해체 후

필 스펙터의 프로듀스로 All Things Must Pass란 타이틀의 솔로 앨범을 냈으며

후에 표절 시비에 휘말리기는 했지만 ''My Sweet Lord''를 발표해 빅 히트시켰다.

각종 자선 공연 등에도 단골로 출연.

한편 그의 아내를 친구였던 에릭 클랩튼에게 빼앗긴 사건은 너무도 유명하다,

에릭 클랩튼의 ''Layla''는 바로 조지 해리슨의 아내 패티 보이드를 향한 노래.

하지만 오랜 지병으로 인해 지난 2001년11월 29일 유명을 달리 해

많은 음악 팬들의 눈물과 한숨을 자아낸 인물이기도 하다.

그리고 2002년 11월 유작 앨범 [Brainwashed]가 발매되었으며 수록 곡

''Marwa Blues로 46회 [그래미]를 수상했다.

조지 해리슨 추모 콘서트 Concert for George! 이 공연은 2002년 조지 해리슨의 1주기를 맞아

그해 11월 29일 런던 로열앨버트홀에서 개최됐습니다

공연에는 답 딜런과 먼저 세상을 떠난 존 레논을 제외한

조지의 솔로앨범을 함께 녹음했거나 무대 위에 함께 올랐던 친구들이 총출동합니다.
