영국에서는 10분의1의 가정이

뉴질랜드에서는 인구의 10%가

이 앨범을 가졌을 정도였다.

폴리스의 'Sting'이 백그라운드 보컬을 담당한

 'Money for Nothing'은

화려한 신드드럼(Synth-Drum),

 Sting의 팔세토 창법(Falsetto:가성)으로

시작되어 이들의 음악이 전과는

 많이 바퀴었음을 알리고 있다.

'Mark Knopfler'의 Blues적인 Guitar Sound는 들을 수 없으며

대신 보다 Rock적이며 사이키델릭한 기타사운드로 승부한다.

 

 이 노래는 80년대 들어 거대 상업자본에 의해 만들어진 MTV에서 실력도 없으면서 

기타만 메고 폼만 잡는 실력없는

가수들을 통렬하게 꾸짓는 노래다.

 

 

1997년 영국 Royal Albert Hall 에서

벌어진 공연실황으로서 기타와 보컬에

백킹 보컬에

Sting 등

그야말로 환상의 멤버들이

참여하여 Live 공연하는 모습

 

아이러니컬하게도 이 노래의 뮤직 비디오는

 현란한 시각효과를 주는 컴퓨터 그래픽을 사용하여

 뮤직비디오 제작 기술을 한 단계 높여 주었고,

비디오어필이 부족한 이 밴드를

비디오 스타로 만들어 주었다.

이 뮤직비디오는 MTV를 통해

이노래의 인기를 가중시켜
